Trade between Maldives and India increases by 31 percent

Trade between India and the Maldives grew by 31 percent last year, Deputy High Commissioner of the Indian High Commission in the Maldives, Rohit Ritesh has said. He made the statement while speaking at a ceremony held at the Maldives Customs Service on Thursday, ahead of a training visit by Maldivian customs officers to the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes, and Narcotics (NACIN) in Mumbai.

Referring to enhancing the capacity of Maldives' customs in trade, Rohit said trade between India and Maldives increased to more than USD 300 million for the first time in 2021, reaching USD 323 million. He said India is among the top five countries to which the Maldives exported goods in 2021.

Customs relations between India and Maldives have strengthened in recent years. So far, 100 customs officials have been sent to India for training in various customs-related fields.
