COVID-19 cases on the rise again, warns HPA

The number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives is on the rise again after a decline, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has warned.

HPA is urging caution as the number of cases is increasing. The agency made the request after publicizing statistics that showed 142 people tested positive for the virus over the past week. This is a high number for one week compared to the relatively low numbers from previous weeks.

Of the 142 people who tested positive for the virus between June 5 and 11, 50 cases were from the Grater Male' Area and 40 from the atolls. A further 52 cases were recorded in resorts and industrial islands.

The Maldives has recorded 179,979 COVID-19 cases, and 299 deaths to date, over four dangerous waves of infections. Some days, the Maldives recorded close to 3,000 positive cases and even recorded 13 COVID-19 deaths in one day.
