Pakistani chef who stabbed waiter charged with murder

A Pakistani national who worked as a chef at Khanji Restaurant in Hulhumale' has been charged with the murder of a Bangladeshi waiter who worked at the same restaurant.

The chef, Abid Ali, attacked the victim at their workplace on April 16. He stabbed the waiter several times using a large knife. The victim suffered deep wounds to his neck and various parts of his body and died instantly.

The state has charged Abid with intentional homicide using a sharp object. The charges were forwarded to the Criminal Court on Wednesday.

According to the law, the punishment for the crime is death. However, if the victim's heirs pardon the attacker with or without obtaining blood money, the law states that the person can be sentenced to death without the death penalty.
