Main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will be allocating 60 percent of the budget it receives from the state for its constituencies. The decision was made at the party's National Assembly held Wednesday.
The resolution was passed unanimously by the members present at the meeting.
The resolution states that MDP is a party that encourages decentralization. Therefore, the National Assembly agrees to distribute 60 percent of the state budget to the constituencies. The funds received from this year's state budget and 60 percent of the funds received each year thereafter will be given to the sectors, the resolution said.
The resolution calls for 20 percent of the funds to be distributed equally among the islands, 25 percent among the constituencies, and 45 percent in proportion to the number of members of the constituencies. Ten percent of the funds allocated to the constituencies will be allocated for MDP activities and campaigns conducted in the constituencies.
MDP's Chairman Fayyaz Ismail (Fayya) has pledged to distribute 60 percent of the state budget funds to party constituencies.
