MDP appoints former JSC Pres Hisan Hussain as VP

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has appointed Hisan Hussain, former President of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), as its new Vice President. The decision was made during the party's National Assembly meeting, following a nomination by MDP President Abdulla Shahid.

The Vice President position had been vacant since April last year when former VP Mohamed Shifaz left the party.

Shahid said that while there are few women in the leadership of the MDP, Hisan is a highly capable candidate for the vice president post. He noted her long-standing, uninterrupted service to the party.

Hisan Hussain resigned as the MDP's legal director earlier on Wednesday. She has previously served as a member of the Thulhaadhoo constituency in Parliament and as a member of the MDP National Assembly. Her husband, Ibrahim Nazil, currently serves as the minority leader and the MDP Parliamentary Group Leader.
