PPM wins seat on Hithadhoo WDC

The opposition, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), won a seat on Addu City Hithadhoo's Women's Development Committee in a by-election held Saturday.

A candidate from the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Aminath Shahidha and PPM candidate Fathimath Nazeeha contested the election. Nazeeha received 567 votes, while Shahidha received 426 votes. The PPM candidate won the election by a margin of 141 votes.

More than 12,000 people were eligible to vote in Saturday's by-election. However, only 1009 people voted in the election.
