A man has been arrested and remanded in custody for attacking the Environment Ministry's State Minister and Jumhooree Party's Chief Spokesperson, Ali Solih.
Ali Solih was attacked using a sharp object on Monday afternoon in Hulhumale'. A 43-year-old local man was subsequently arrested for the attack. The attacker is the same man who recently disrupted the Friday congregation at the King Salman Mosque in Male' City. He was produced before the Hulhumale Magistrate's Court on Tuesday and remanded in custody for 15 days.
A video of the man trying to attack Ali Solih has been circulating on social media. The video shows him trying to use a sharp weapon to attack Ali Solih's neck. However, he could not reach the neck and instead connected with Ali's hand.
Political parties and leaders have strongly condemned the attack.
