The number of operating theaters in government hospitals in the Male' area will be increased to 12 before the end of this year.
Dharumavantha Hospital's CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem informed state media that there are currently four operation theaters at the main government hospitals, IGMH and Dharumavantha. Razzaq said the number of theaters will rise to eight with the expansion of bed capacity at IGMH.
Noting that Hulhumale' Hospital currently lacks an ICU, Razzaq said a project is underway to further enhance the hospital's capacity. Under this initiative, four operating theatres, a 14-bed NICU, and a 10-bed ICU are being developed at the hospital, he said.
According to statistics, IGMH sees approximately 240,000 outpatient department (OPD) visits and 150,000 visits to its emergency and GP departments annually, with about 25,500 surgeries performed each year.
