The government has recovered MVR 478.9 million owed to the state in the second quarter of this year.
Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA)'s financial report on the second quarter said MVR 222 million was recovered under dues clearance, MVR 30 million through reminder calls and emails, and MVR 497,810 through legal action.
In the second quarter, 739 individuals were reminded to pay their tax dues, and 774 individuals were reminded to file their overdue tax returns.
MIRA also publicized information on MVR 5.1 billion in taxes owed to the state as of the second quarter of this year. This includes MVR 2.8 billion in taxes and MVR 2.3 billion in penalties.
At the end of the second quarter, MIRA was owed MVR 9.9 billion as revenue. This includes MVR 3.1 billion in non-tax revenue and MVR 6.7 billion in penalties. As of the end of the second quarter, MIRA has filed 108 cases in the Civil Court to recover the money owed to the state. Seven cases were settled against MIRA in the second quarter.
MIRA has provided concessions to 96 persons due to difficulties in paying their taxes.
