The Bangladeshi national arrested for having homosexual relations with a large number of men and filming it, MD Alamgiri, has pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
Alamgiri was charged with having homosexual relations and blackmail. His trial began at the Criminal Court behind closed doors on Monday. During the hearing, Alamgiri pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for a lighter sentence. Due to his admission of guilt, an expedited trial will be conducted, and his sentence will be lightened.
Alamgiri filmed himself having homosexual relations with several local men, including politicians, prominent businessmen, and law enforcement officials. Some of these videos have been leaked on social media platforms. While several of these men have been identified, charges have been raised against three people thus far, including Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's brother, Nazim Abdul Sattar, former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed, and police DED officer, Abdul Rahman Rafiu. They were charged under the Penal Code. The prosecutor also had the opportunity to prosecute them under the Sexual Offenses Act. The penalties are more severe if prosecuted under this Act.
