Ungoofaaru powerhouse handed over to FENAKA

The operation and management of R. Ungoofaaru island's powerhouse have been handed over to FENAKA Corporation.

The agreement was signed by FENAKA's Managing Director Ahmed Saeed and Ungoofaaru Council President Abdulla Rasheed at a ceremony held in Ungoofaaru on Thursday. The ceremony was attended by Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam, Environment Minister Aiminath Shauna, MPs representing the Ungoofaaru, Inguraidho, and Dhuvaafaru constituencies, and Raa Atoll Council President Hussain Naseef.

The Ungoofaaru Powerhouse was run by the island's residents for 24 years before being handed over to FENAKA. The existing employees of the powerhouse have been transferred under FENAKA, and their letters of employment were handed over to them at Thursday's ceremony.

Ungoofaaru Council President Abdulla Rasheed said the powerplant was handed over to FENAKA with the hope that better services would be provided by the corporation.

The ruling island of Raa atoll, Ungoofaaru, has a population of 1,753 people. FENAKA has brought a brand new 800 kW generator to Ungoofaaru and is in the process of installing the new generator.
