Laiza resigns as Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice

The Ombudsman of the Office of Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice, Mariyam Laiza, has resigned from the post.

The President's Office said it received Liza's resignation letter on Tuesday. The reason for Liza's resignation remains unclear.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed Mariyam Laiza as Ombudsperson on January 15, 2021. Prior to her appointment as Ombudsperson, Laiza was a lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the National National University.

The Office of Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice was established in December 2020 to investigate and seek justice for human rights violations committed by a government agency or its officials from the time of President Mohamed Ameen to the time of President Abdulla Yameen.
