Over 500 vehicles have been issued parking tickets in the last five days since the launch of minibus services in Male' City.
MTCC's RTL mini bus service commenced last Monday on three routes. They are the Ameenee route, the Sosun route, and the Orchid root. Bus service is available from 5:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
The bus service was started after banning parking on Ameenee Magu and Majeedhee Magu, both being the main roads used for bus service. Police had earlier said that any vehicle parked on these two roads would be issued parking tickets.
The police are more active on Male' streets these days to ensure the smooth operation of minibusses. According to police statistics released Sunday, 538 vehicles were issued tickets for illegal parking from Tuesday onwards. Thirty motorbikes and one car were towed during the period.
The mini-bus services are organized to cover four neighborhoods of the city. A total of 40 bus stops have been made on the bus routes, and buses will approach each stop every 15 minutes.
Eighteen buses are used to provide bus services in the city, eight of which have ramps and wheelchair access for people with disabilities. There are 20 seats on special needs buses and 22 seats on other buses. In addition, ten people can travel standing.
The mini-bus service is free for the first two weeks. After that, the fare is free only for children under the age of three, students in uniform, and those over 65. The fare per trip is MVR 7.
