The police officer involved in leaked homosexual videos with a Bangladeshi national has pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
Bangladeshi national, MD Alamgir, filmed himself having homosexual relations with several local men, including politicians, prominent businessmen, and law enforcement officials. Some of these videos have been leaked on social media platforms. While several of these men have been identified, charges have been raised against three people thus far, including Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's brother, Nazim Abdul Sattar, former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed, and police DED officer, Abdul Rahman Rafiu.
The Prosecutor General's Office said Abdul Rahman Rafiu pleaded guilty to the charges against him at a closed-door hearing held Sunday. Therefore, the case will be expedited, with sentencing scheduled for Thursday.
The prosecution charged Abdul Rahman with homosexuality. According to the Penal Code, Abdul Rahman faces nine months and 18 days in jail. However, his sentence will be commuted as he has pleaded guilty.
While Alamgir has already been found guilty and sentenced to seven months in jail, Nazim Sattar was sentenced to three months and 26 days under house arrest.
