A mental health center is being established in Hulhumale' Hospital.
An official from Hulhumale' Hospital told AVAS that the center is expected to open on October 10, which falls on World Mental Health Day.
A psychiatrist was recruited to the hospital, and service began earlier in July this year. The official who spoke from the hospital said the hospital is working on expanding its services as the population of Hulhumale' has increased significantly in the past year.
“We are doing what we have to do to keep up with the demand,” he said.
A mental health clinic was opened in the Maldives' largest government hospital, IGMH, in 2019. However, due to a shortage of specialists, there is a huge waitlist for services.
