Direct flights between the Maldives and China are set to resume next month. Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin, made the announcement on behalf of the Chinese government while speaking to state media, PSM.
Flights between China and the Maldives were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and tourists have not visited the Maldives from China for the past two years.
The Ambassador said arrangements are being made to resume flights next month.
The Maldives is one of the most popular destinations among Chinese tourists. Of the 1.7 million tourists who visited the Maldives in 2019, 17 percent were from China. The Ambassador expects the number of Chinese tourists visiting the Maldives to increase significantly with the resumption of flights.
