Hong Kong Airlines has resumed direct flights to the Maldives.

The airline suspended flights to the Maldives due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Recommencing flights after a long hiatus, the first flight of Hong Kong Airlines touched down at the Velana International Airport in the Maldives at 7.30 pm on January 19, carrying 209 passengers. The aircraft and passengers were warmly welcomed at the airport.

According to the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates the VIA, Hong Kong Airlines will operate three weekly flights between Hong Kong and Maldives. The flights will be operated on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

China's Sichuan Airlines, Beijing Capital, and Eastern Airlines already operate flights to the Maldives.
