Azerbaijan Airlines, the national carrier of Azerbaijan, has launched direct flights to the Maldives, just in time for the peak tourism season.
The new flight connects Baku to Velana International Airport (VIA), with two weekly flights. The flights will be operated using an Airbus B787 aircraft.
A welcoming ceremony was held for the inaugural flight which arrived on Saturday, attended by Maldives Airports Company Limited's CEO and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, alongside other company officials.
According to the statistics of the Tourism Ministry, more than 40 airlines currently operate flights to the Maldives.
