OT must be given after eight hours of work, says CSC Pres

There should be no civil servants who receive overtime pay after six hours of work, the Civil Service Commission (CSC)'s President, Mohamed Nasih, has said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Education Minister Dr. Aishah Ali said the official working hours for education sector employees are set for six hours and that they receive overtime if they work beyond the official hours. However, the Employment Act provides for eight hours as official hours, she said, adding that the education sector has an overtime policy for work done outside official hours. However, she did not provide details on said policies.

Speaking to AVAS regarding the minister's statement, Nasih said that according to the new salary structure, overtime would start after eight hours.

At the Parliament on Wednesday, Minister Aishath said teachers at single-sessions schools have to work for eight hours as their official hours compared to the six hours that employees work for in other schools. The current system and policies do not allow a solution to the issue, she said, adding that the ministry is working on establishing the same method for all schools.
