Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has said he is not a politician.
Nasheed's response came after Members of Parliament expressed their disappointment to Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali, stating that they were not being considered as chief guests due to their political affiliations.
Nasheed countered the claim and said he regularly receives invitations to attend school award ceremonies.
"I have attended numerous ceremonies, and I continue to receive invitations to many events. I don't think I'm a politician as you say," he said.
Replying to questions raised by members regarding not being given the opportunity to honor awards ceremony, the minister clarified that the guest of honor for school ceremonies would be determined by the respective school. The Education Ministry has a policy in place for appointing the guest of honor, she said.
"Schools forward us a list of three preferred choices for the chief guest, and we typically approve the first choice," Aishath explained, shedding light on the process.
