The government will take a decision regarding Transport Ministry's Deputy Minister Shimaz Ali's removal only after a thorough investigation, Presidential Spokesperson Miuwan Mohamed has said.
Shimaz was appointed Deputy Transport Minister on February 10, 2019.
Speaking at a press conference at the President's Office on Wednesday, Miuwan said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had received a letter from Transport Minister Aishath Nahla requesting Shimaz's termination. In her letter, the Transport Minister accused Shimaz of corruption, such as illegal vehicle registration and defaming some ministry officials.
"The President has received such a letter. Action will be taken after looking into the matter," Miuwan said.
The ACC has investigated similar allegations against Shimaz in the past. However, the Prosecutor General's Office decided against charging him due to lack of evidence.
