Tourism occupancy averages at 58.8 percent

Maldives' tourism occupancy averaged 58.8 percent as of September this year, the Central Bank of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has said.

According to the MMA's October data, the occupancy rate stood at 58.8 percent this year, up 6.6 percent compared to the same period last year. While tourism occupancy peaked in February this year, standing at 72.7 percent, it stood at 70.1 percent earlier in January.

According to MMA statistics, the number of flights to the Maldives is also increasing. The number of international flights arriving in the Maldives reached 11,070 as of September. There were 8,698 flights during the same period last year.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 1.35 million tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year. This number is more than the total number of tourists that visited the Maldives in 2021.

Currently, India is the top source market for Maldives tourism. The Maldives received 191,524 tourists from India this year. Russia is the second largest tourist destination in the Maldives, with 166,250 tourists arriving from Russia thus far this year.
