The central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has reported an increase in international flights that arrived in the Maldives during the first ten months of the year.
A report published by MMA confirmed that the number of tourist arrivals also increased with the increase in international flights.
According to the report, 13,671 international flights arrived in the Maldives from January until end of October this year. This is an increase of 653 flights compared to the same period last year. The increase in flight operations has been accompanied by a corresponding rise in the number of tourists visiting the island nation.
A total of 1.9 million tourists has visited the Maldives by December 17 this year, a 5.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The government aims to host 2 million tourists by the end of the year, and the Tourism Minister has stated that the goal will likely be achieved by December 25, based on current arrival trends.
