Int'l flight movements increase by 27 percent

The number of international flights to Maldives increased by 27 percent as of September this year compared to the same period last year.

The number of international flights arriving in the Maldives from January to September this year stood at 11,070, according to the Central Bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) data for October. There were 8,698 flights during the same period last year.

Although scheduled flights among international flights increased, chartered flights and private jet flight movements were lower this year than last year.

While there were 9,461 flights to the Maldives as of September this year, including scheduled flights and cargo flights, the figures stood at 6,864 during the same period last year. There were 1,609 private jets and chartered flights as of September this year, compared to 1,834 private jets and charter flights during the same period last year.

According to the Tourism Ministry, more than 25 international airlines currently fly to the Maldives. These include Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Air Asia, and Sri Lankan Airlines.

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives this year has now crossed 1.34 million. This is more than the total number of tourists that visited the Maldives in 2021.
