The number of international flight movements to the Maldives' main international airport, the Velana International Airport (VIA), increased by 10 percent in April this year compared to the same period last year.
According to the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), a total of 5,841 international flights operated to VIA by April this year. This represents a significant rise of 541 flights compared to the 5,300 flights recorded during the same timeframe last year.

The Maldives saw an overall increase in scheduled and cargo flights this year. By the end of April this year, 5,168 scheduled and cargo flights had arrived, surpassing the 4,280 flights received during the same period last year. However, there was a decrease in private jet and charter flights, with 673 arrivals by April, in contrast to the 1,020 flights recorded in the same period last year.
