Parliament to decide on Goidhoo Chief Magistrate's removal

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has referred B. Goidhoo Magistrate Court's Chief Magistrate, Ahmed Nishar's removal to the Parliament for its consideration.

The JSC referred the matter to the relevant standing committee as per Article 154(g) of the Constitution.

The JSC decided to remove Nishar from his post after he took over a case entrusted to another judge. The JSC said it was proved that Nishar took over the case intending to misuse his position to gain an unfair advantage in connection with the business interests between the accused and him. As this is illegal, the JSC moved to remove him from his position.

Although the JSC has decided to remove Nishar from the magistrate post, he will be terminated from the post only when the Parliament approves removing him.
