Criminal Court acquits main suspect in Nadheem's murder case

The Criminal Court has acquitted Mafaz Hussain Saleem of the 2017 murder of Nadheem Abdul Raheem.

Nadheem, 20, died in July 2017 while receiving treatment at ADK Hospital for his injuries sustained after being stabbed inside Terminal Cafe' in Male' City. The state raised charges against Mafaz Hussain Saleem, Mohamed Karam Suhail, Hussain Shamin, and Ali Nifaz in connection to the murder. Mafaz was charged with intentional homicide using a sharp object, while the remaining three were charged with participating in the intentional homicide with a sharp object.

The hearings in the case were concluded on February 22. The Criminal Court scheduled to deliver its verdict three times before, with the hearing originally scheduled for March. However, the hearing was postponed to early July, and then to September 26, before being scheduled for November 14.

In the court's verdict, Judge Hussain Faiz Rashad ruled that there was not enough evidence to prove Mafaz guilty of the murder.
