Agreement signed with Muni Enterprises to finance airport projects

Muni Enterprises has been awarded a contract to obtain financing for the development of six regional airports in different parts of the country.

The agreement was signed after an announcement was made seeking parties to develop regional airports or finance the airport projects, the Planning Ministry said.

Muni Enterprise has been doing business extensively in the Maldives since 1983. The company expanded its business to the tourism sector by opening Fushifaru Resort in 2017.

Earlier this year, Planning Ministry announced bids to develop airports in HDh. Makunudhoo, Sh. Bilehfahi, B. Thulhaadhoo, Th. Vilufushi, and F. Magoodhoo. The government set a minimum bid price of $3 million during the expression of interest.

In September this year, Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam said the agreement-signing stage had been reached with three companies for the development of the new airports. The nature of the projects requires at least $3 million to be proposed, he had said.

The government has already signed an agreement with Dhekunu Dhuni Investment to obtain funding for the airport projects.
