State receives estimated amount in Green Tax revenue

The state has received the estimated amount of green tax revenue this year.

The government estimated the state would receive MVR 823.7 million as green tax this year.

According to the weekly figures released by the Finance Ministry, the government has collected MVR 831.4 million in green tax so far this year.

The government introduced the Green Tax in October 2016 to gather funds to tackle environmental issues in the Maldives under the Green Fund. The Green Fund's projects include beach protection, water and sewerage, and waste management projects. USD 3 is charged as Green Tax per tourist at local guest houses, and USD 6 is charged per head at other tourism service providers.
