The government has collected MVR 773 million in Green Tax thus far this year.
According to the Finance Ministry, Green Tax revenue increased this year compared to the same period last year. Green tax collection stood at MVR 767 million during the same period last year.
The government is expected to receive more than MVR 1 billion in Green Tax this year. With MVR 773 million collected so far this year, 74 percent of the estimated revenue from Green Tax has been achieved.
Green tax, initiated in October 2016, aims to generate funds for various environmental initiatives in the Maldives, including water and sewerage projects, waste management projects, and beach protection activities. The tax is imposed on tourist resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and liveaboards.
