National airline increases excess baggage fees

The national airline, Maldivian, has increased its excess baggage fees.

Ahmed Mushil Sobah, Marketing and PR Executive of Island Aviation, told AVAS that despite the increase in excess baggage fees, the rates would vary according to the distance traveled.

"The access baggage fee has been increased based on the distance traveled," Sobah said.

Sobah said the fee for excess baggage was increased due to the increase in GST and TGST.

The Parliament approved the government's proposed increase in GST and TGST on November 16. GST, currently levied at six percent, will be levied at eight percent, and TGST, which is presently levied at 12 percent, will be levied at 16 percent effective from January 1.
