Former police commissioner appointed to Police Board

Former Police Commissioner Mohamed Faseeh has been appointed as a member of the Police Board.

A vacancy opened up on the police board when the Parliament approved to appoint the Chairman of the board, Ali Faiz, as the Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka on November 28.

The Police Board's Chairman is elected by a member vote.

Faseeh was most recently the Deputy CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) during the government of President Abdulla Yameen. Faseeh was also the Commissioner of Police when President Mohammed Nasheed's rule ended on February 7, 2012.

The Police Board consists of two members appointed by the President, three members with technical expertise, and two members elected by the general public.

Within four months of its constitution, the board is required to investigate various allegations against police officers in the ranks of superintendent and above, except the police commissioner, and decide on their posts.
