Former intelligence head retires pending dismissal

The former Head of the Maldives Police Services' Intelligence Department, Ahmed Shuhad, has retired.

As per police retirement policies, Shuhad retired from service on June 30.

Shuhad's honorable retirement comes while the Police Board had decided that he, including six others, must be dismissed from the police force. However, the decision was not implemented as the court ordered a stay on the board's decision after some officers who were dismissed filed lawsuits.

The police did not comment on how Shuhad was given the opportunity to retire with honors while the police board had already decided that he must be dismissed from the force.
