The Maldives Media Council (MMC) has elected Ahmed Musthafa as its president and Hussain Shareef as its vice-president.
The council elected its president and vice-president for the next two years on Wednesday at its first meeting held after the council's newly elected members took office.
The Public Service Media (PSM)'s Technical Operations Manager Ahmed Musthafa and Aaafathis Online's Ali Nishan contested for the president post. Mustafa was elected president with nine votes against six received by Nishan.
Three candidates ran for vice-president. They are Hussain Shareef of Vaguthu Online, Mohamed Simau of One Online, and Ahmed Aamin Mohamed. Hussain Shareef was elected to the post with seven votes. Aamin received six votes, while Simau received two votes.
