MDP's Presidential Primary slated for Jan 28

The main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will hold its presidential primary on January 28, 2023.

The party said the deadline for submitting forms to contest the primary is next Saturday. According to an announcement made by MDP on Sunday, forms must be submitted before 4:00 pm on December 24, along with a document showcasing the support of 500 party members.

While President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced his intent to contest the election, MDP's President and Parliament Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed, is also preparing to contest the election. However, Nasheed has not made any official announcements thus far.

According to the timeline for the presidential primary, the final list of candidates will be announced on December 26. The list of eligible voters for the presidential primary will be made public, and complaints will be opened on December 28. The deadline for submitting complaints is by 4:00 pm on December 31.

The final list of voters will be publicized on January 3, 2023. Candidate representatives can submit the relevant application between January 10 and January 15.
