Ice and diesel to be provided on credit to local fishermen

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that fishermen can soon purchase petrol and ice on credit.

President Solih made the announcement while addressing speaking at a ceremony held in Ga. Dhaandhoo to officially hand over 25 hectares of newly reclaimed land to the island council.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih said ice would be available on credit through FENAKA, and oil and diesel would be available on credit through State Trading Organization (STO), he said.

“The fishermen will get enough oil through STO within the next two weeks,” he said.

The president assured the government would find solutions to the issues related to the fishing industry within a few months.

Fishermen have always complained about the high price of oil and the lack of ice availability. Fishers complain that the fish they catch is not sold to MIFCO and other private companies at fair prices.
