MDP Primary: Pres Solih submits candidacy papers

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has filed candidacy papers to contest in the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s presidential primary.

The ruling party has scheduled to hold its primary on January 28, 2023. Applications are now open to contest in the primary, with the submission deadline expiring at 4:00 pm today.

President Solih's campaign manager and Kinbidhoo constituency MP Mohamed Nashiz said he had submitted Solih's candidacy form with documents attesting to the support of more than 20,000 party members.

MDP's President and Parliament Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed, has also submitted the application form to contest the election.

According to the MDP's presidential primary timeline, the final list of candidates will be announced on December 26. The list of eligible voters for the presidential primary will be publicized and opened for complaints on December 28. The deadline for submitting complaints is by 4:00 pm on December 31.

The final voters' list will be announced on January 3. Candidate representatives can submit the relevant application between January 10 and January 15.
