'No chance of losing election'

The President of the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Parliament Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed, has said that he does not see himself losing the party's presidential primary.

MDP's primary has been scheduled for January 28, in which Nasheed would go head to head against President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

At a press conference held Sunday night, Nasheed was asked how he would react if he lost the primary to President Solih.

In his response, Nasheed repeated that a situation where he would lose the election would not occur. Nasheed said President Solih could not win the party's election or even a general election.

Repeatedly asked how he would react if he lost by a narrow margin in the MDP presidential primary, Nasheed said he did not expect to lose by a narrow margin and was not prepared for it.

"This is not something I have even anticipated - not expected; it is not a scenario that can occur and has never happened in the past," Nasheed said.

He said losing an election was not something he was familiar with and that he would not contest the election if losing was an option.
