The main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has won the by-election for a seat reserved for women in Thakandhoo Council.
A by-election was held in Thakandhoo on Saturday following the resignation of MDP councilor Zahia Ali.
The election was contested by Fathimath Shaufa from the MDP and independent candidate Faheema Mohamed. Shaufa won the election with 237 votes against Faheema's 203 votes.
Six hundred seventy-five people were eligible to vote in the by-election. The voter turnout was 448.
