Tourism flourishes with arrival of Chinese tourists

The number of tourists that have visited the Maldives thus far this year has reached 115,000.

According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, 115,177 tourists visited the Maldives this year by January 21. This is a 28.9 percent increase over the same period last year.

The most number of arrivals in a single day was recorded this year on January 21, with 6,681 arrivals.

Currently, Russia is the largest source market for Maldives tourism, accounting for 14.7 percent of total arrivals with 16,974 tourists. Italy follows behind with 11,764 tourists, while India comes third with 11,163 tourists.

The UK is now the fourth largest source market. The Maldives received 9,509 tourists from the UK, while 6,731 tourists visited from Germany.

While China resumed flights to the Maldives after a three-year hiatus, the country has been counted among the top 10 countries for tourist arrivals within the first four days of flights. According to the Tourism Ministry, 2,354 tourists arrived from China, becoming number nine on the arrivals chart.

There are currently 1,214 tourism facilities in the Maldives, including 168 resorts, 876 guesthouses, 157 safaris, and 13 hotels. The number of beds available for tourist use is 59,746.
