Maldives sees ten percent surge in tourist arrivals

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives so far this year has increased by 10 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 1.39 million tourists visited the Maldives as of Tuesday. This is an increase of 128,460 tourists compared to 1.26 million tourists during the same period last year.

China, the Maldives’ largest tourism source market, accounted for over 200,000 arrivals. The top ten sources countries for tourism are as follows:

China - 203,000 tourists
Russia - 150,000 tourists
United Kingdom - 119,600 tourists
Italy - 102,500 tourists
Germany - 98,000 tourists
India - 83,200 tourists
United States - 47,200 tourists
France - 39,600 tourists
Spain - 30,700 tourists
Switzerland - 26,000 tourists

On average, 5,518 tourists arrive in the Maldives daily. The Maldives boasts 1,223 tourist facilities, including 174 resorts, 882 guesthouses, 153 safaris and 14 hotels.
