32 percent increase in tourist arrivals

The Maldives' tourism has grown by 32.5 percent this year compared to the same period last year.

According to the statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, 155,886 tourists arrived in the Maldives as of the 28th of this month. This is a 32.5 percent increase over the same period last year. One hundred seventeen thousand six hundred eight tourists arrived in the Maldives during the same period in 2022.

Statistics show that the largest number of tourists visiting the Maldives comes from Russia. While the Maldives has received 21,497 tourists from Russia thus far this year, India follows behind with 17,004 tourists. Italy grabs the third spot with 14,995 tourists, while the UK comes fourth with 13,061 tourists.

China, a top source market for Maldives tourism before the COVID-19 pandemic, reopened its international borders earlier this month. China began flights to the Maldives on January 18, and 5,390 Chinese tourists have visited the Maldives since then, currently ranking eighth on arrival charts.

On average, 5,567 tourists visit the Maldives on a single day and spend eight days in the country.
