Over one thousand representatives will attend the Jumhooree Party's congress slated for this month.
The ruling coalition partner, JP's congress, is scheduled to be held on the 24th and 25th of this month.
JP's Secretary General Ali Arif told the media that all the party members are working hard to make the JP congress the most colorful congress ever held by a political party.
"Since the Maldives will be having its presidential election this year, there is much excitement [for the congress]. As our internal elections will be held during the conference, there is a very strong election spirit among those contesting the election," Ali Arif said.
According to Arif, JP's branch elections would be held ahead of the congress as some branches have to be formed before the congress. An election committee has been formed to hold elections before the congress and determine the participants of the congress.
The congress will also make some changes to the JP's constitution. One of the most important changes is the abolition of the party leader position. Since its inception, the JP has been led by Gasim Ibrahim as party's leader.
The JP also has a president and four vice presidents. However, the president's post has been vacant since former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed resigned from the post.
The JP had previously announced that it would contest the presidential election this year. However, the party now states that it would decide on the presidential election after electing party council members at the congress.
