MMPRC graft: ACC requests charges against Naveen

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the Prosecutor General's Office to raise charges against senior MNDF officer Ibrahim Naveen Zubair, M. Kashimaage, in relation to the MMPRC graft.

The ACC is seeking six charges against Naveen: They are, accepting, soliciting, and agreeing to receive a bribe, holding a senior position in the MNDF and using his positional influence to obtain illegal benefits for a person or entity, and possession and use of proceeds of bribery and money laundering.

Naveen was suspended from his job in 2019 in connection with the fraud case.

The biggest corruption scandal in the Maldives' history, the MMPRC graft, saw billions in state funds lost to corruption. In its report on the graft, the now-dissolved Asset Recovery Commission named 114 people who had received corruption funds. These include former and current parliament members, former and current government officials, judges, and senior officials of the security services. The ACC has ordered the MMPRC to recover US$100,000 owed to the state in the case.
