Criminal Court to be relocated to Hulhumale' COVID facility building

The Criminal Court will be temporarily relocated to the Hulhumale' COVID Facility building.

The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) said in a statement Monday that the decision was taken to temporarily relocate the Criminal Court to another building as the fourth floor of the current Criminal Court building was in dire need of repair and renovation. The use of the building is not safe for the safety and security of the judges and staff, it said.

The statement further said the government had arranged for the Criminal Court to be relocated to the former COVID facility building in Hulhumale'. The DJA is currently working on moving the facility to the building.

"We are currently doing the necessary repairs to the COVID facility. It had been built for the purpose of a hospital, and therefore, some changes need to be made to run a court. The Criminal Court will be relocated to the building after that," a DJA media official told AVAS.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to conduct Criminal Court hearings and court work online, from home, and on shift duty basis.
