PGO raises charges against former FENAKA MD

Former FENAKA Managing Director Ahmed Nimal has been charged for allegedly paying contractors without deducting liquidated damages.

In addition to Nimal, charges have been raised against Minhaj Waheed in relation to the case.

The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) filed the charges in the case for allegedly paying contractors without deducting MVR 2.54 million as liquidated damages for failing to deliver materials within the agreed timeframe under contractual agreements between FENAKA and private companies.

The PGO said that from November 2013 to September 2016, while Mohamed Nimal was the Managing Director and Minhaj Waheed was the Director of the Finance Division of FENAKA Corporation Limited, the corporation had not received goods from contractors within the period stipulated in the agreements with the companies. The state did not receive the liquidated damages as per the procedure due to the actions of the pair, PGO said.

Although two others were accused in the case in addition to Nimal and Minjah, PGO said there was not enough evidence to charge them and, therefore, did not pursue their case.
