High Court commutes sentence of police officer involved in homosexuality case

The High Court has commuted the sentence of Abdul Rahman Rafiu, the police officer who confessed to having homosexual relations with Bangladeshi national, MD Alamgir.

Abdul Rahman was working in the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) when video footage of him having sexual relations with the Bangladeshi man was leaked on social media. After hearing the case, the Criminal Court, on September 22, 2022, sentenced him to one year, two months, and 12 days in jail.

Following the verdict, Abdul Rahman appealed the case in the High Court and sought commutation of the sentence. The High Court judges have unanimously agreed to reduce Abdul Rahman's jail sentence by two months and 12 days. Therefore, he will now serve a year in prison.
