A vessel that ran aground K. Thilafushi's Kudagiri reef has been fined MVR 3 million.
The vessel, "AM MSV Maria Sinthayathirai Riyana", ran aground the Kudagiri reef on January 31.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said today that 130 sqm of the reef were damaged in the incident. The survey report shared by the ship's owner also confirms the damage, the EPA said.
The owner of the vessel has been fined MVR 3,098.710.00 under the Environmental Protection and Conservation Act of the Maldives. The amount must be paid within 30 days.
