The Economic Ministry has facilitated an easier process to pay foreigners' quota fees.
The Economic Ministry accepts quota fees through its Expat system. The Expat System is used to issue permits to foreigners working in the Maldives, to manage their affairs in an orderly manner, and to provide services in an easily accessible manner. The ministry temporarily suspended some services of the system from the 26th of last month until today in order to make further changes to the system.
The Economic Ministry said the Expat system's services would be resumed from tomorrow. The ministry will also provide easier ways to pay quota fees when the Expat system services are resumed, they said.
The quota fee is a fee that employers pay to the government for foreigners who work in the Maldives, as stipulated in the Employment Act. The employer has to pay MVR 2,000 for each quota utilized for a period of one year. Scheduled payment options spread over a 12-month period are available to pay the fees.
Details of the changes to the Expat system can be found on the system's home page, and further information can be obtained by calling the Economic Ministry's hotline.
