An Indian citizen has been arrested on human trafficking charges.
Venkataramana Palla, 20, was arrested in a special operation against human trafficking. Police arrested the man from a guesthouse in the Henveiru ward of Male' City. When taken to the Criminal Court to decide on his remand, the court ordered him to be remanded in custody for 15 days.
The Criminal Court order said the man was arrested in connection with a massive human trafficking operation in the Maldives and abroad. Many people have suffered as a result of the human trafficking ring, the order said.
Police have not yet released any details on the incident.
